Comments Review of Aqua Divers Club at the Costa Navarino Westin resort, located in Navarino, Messina, Greece.

Greetings from the Kalamata region of Greece (west coast)! The diving here is worthy of your experience: underwater mountain features, sheer (but colorless) walls, crazy thermoclines down to 64 F creating 'blurry' water, seemed like 200 ft viz, limited but gorgeous marine life. I found an ancient tea pot they made me put back whence it came from : ( How cool is that ?? When I surfaced at the foot of an historical island (called "Proti"), with a history going back to when the Athenians spied on the Spartans, I was 'smack dab' in front of a monastery with the all-powerful Cross donning the rotunda. I made the sign of the cross like I've done 1000s of times, but this time I will never forget, and I'm not even a religious person.

The resort houses the dive shop which is one of the best shops I've ever had the pleasure of diving with. Gear is in great shape, tanks are like new, the boat is immaculate and sea worthy. They are experts and are diving not just we their heads but with their hearts. The resort is a 5 star complex but the diving is very reasonable. Nitrox steel 100 tanks, yoke or DIN, that's above and beyond by most standards.

Looking back on my log book over the last 4 days, we saw some turtles, lobsters, juvenile damsels, tons of damsels, one octopus, sea urchins, but you're jot gonna be overly impressed with the abundance of marine life. For me the magic is the overall setting and giant underwater mountainous rock formations and features that can slope or on some dives there are shear walls. Viz to the underwater moon if get my drift. Dives were lead by capable dive masters who were very personal and safety minded. They have great attitudes. On two days I had my own guide as the other guide had students. Talk about valet diving. This is Greek hospitality to the max! The diving is easy as there is no current, but it is very cold and the salinity of the Mediterranean will have you rethink your weights !

On the surface interval they take you to these private beach coves that people with million dollar yachts don't find. It's terribly romantic.

They have a system whereby you check in at the shop and they fuss to get your gear loaded into the van for the short ride to the harbor town. They handle everything and you don't life a finger. It all moves like a well oiled machine.

When you consider that scuba diving was illegal in Greece only 8 years ago, it is incredible what they've been able to present to the discerning dive traveler. Eleni and her group are pioneering the sport in Greece and it will get better and better. Specifically, there are dive sites of antiquity that the government should open up to the public and then things could really take off. You've heard of eat, sleep and dive? How about: Greek, sleep, and dive! You come here as a guest, but depart as friends. Check it out.
