Comments Eriyadu Island Resort is primarily a German resort. But resort staff spoke English. The dive operation is German run and well run. Nitrox32 is free and promoted for safety benefits. They track and ask you to report max depth, time, air remaining.

A checkout dive is required. They want to see buoyancy control, mask flooding/clearing, and surface marker buoy deployment.
My wife is very much a timid beginner. The dive master on the checkout dive spent a lot of time helping her.

Dive staff are limited so "house reef" dives are on your own. There is no current on the house reef.

You can dive the nice "house" reef anytime you want till 8pm. Boat dives leave twice a day and are rated as open to all or "advanced". The monsoons had started so water clarity was not what I had hoped for.

You must answer "NO" to all medical questions on their form or have a current (less than one year old) physicians' statement saying it is ok for you to dive. One of these questions is: "Are you over 45 years of age and currently smoke pipe, cigars or cigarettes?". Other questions are of the form: "Have you ever had ...?". Another was: "Do you regularly take prescription medications?". Of course there is no warning about all this when you make your reservations and travel 1/2 the world around to get there. A trip back to Male to see a doctor would set you back a day and over $100 just for the boat ride. We answered "NO". I am 58, a non-smoker, and generally healthy and do not ask a physicians' permission for anything.

My only real complaint about the resort is that they do not segregate smokers in the dining area. We had to ask to be moved away from smokers. It seems that many Germans smoke.
