Comments The very bad:
Unfortunately the Malaysian Govt, despite charging a Marine park conservation fee, does not do any enforcement. Fishing boats are everywhere and seem to have taken the big schools of snappers. The locals told me that the govt has essentially lined their own pockets as none of the money has come back into the local community for beach cleanups or anything of that sort.

Just Ok:
The hotel is a just a place to stay. By American standards, they are quite low. I paid $30USD a day for a room with two bunk beds, and a queen. It is what it is. Shower, toilet, and sink all in the same room; unfortunately this keeps the bathroom perpetually wet.

The good:
Dives at 9 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. On Fridays, due to Muslim prayers, the 1 pm is cancelled but there may be a 11 am dive in its place.

The furthest dive is 30 minutes away. The nearest is 5 minutes away and most dive sites are within 5-15 minutes away.

Favourite dives sites include Tokong Laut (Temple of the sea), Terumbu Tiga (T3 or Three Reefs), Batu Nisan, and DeLagoon.

I stayed here for eight days and seven nights and dived every dive. I brought my own dive equipment but full gear is available. If you rent their equipment, you will find that all the gear is setup when you come to dive and they will change out the tanks for you for second and third dive. When you are finished for the day, you rinse out your gear and hang them up to dry.

On my first day of diving at DeLagoon, I got to swim with a school of Bumphead Parrotfish. These fish are hard to find. After coming back for three years, I finally saw them and never did see them again.

On my second day at Batu Nisan, I saw a couple of male cuttlefish fighting for the affection of a lady-cuttlefish.

On my third day, I saw a Black tip reef shark just swim by us without a care.

All my dives were either good or great. There were storms that passed over during the evenings and nights that caused the viz to drop but even those dives were still good; the divemasters then looked for small things and hidden things.

As I had said, this is my third year to come to Watercolours. I talked to other divers and found out that they were also returning back. The person running the diveshop, Uwei, was young but she is respected. All the guides were also instructors. The entire staff is friendly and they look after their divers.
