Comments This trip was a little disappointing from a weather standpoint. The winds kicked up the waves and in combination with clouds, really reduced the vis. I didn't get the great wide angle shots that are normal. That said, the macro critters weren't missing. I spent as much time as possible directly under the SeaVentures resort just off Mabul searching out dinner plate size frog fish, nudibranch, crocodile fish, lion fish, scorpion fish, moray eel, bumphead parrot fish, schools of barracuda and jacks. Oh, did I say lion fish? More damn lion fish are under SeaVentures now than I have encountered anywhere else. Add to that the gray reef and whitetip sharks, turtle, huge barracuda schools, napolean wrasse, etc. of Sipadan Island itself and you can't go wrong with the trip.

As for the resort and dive operations, both have improved substantially. The place was getting pretty run down, but the current management has it looking great with very nice boats. The food was very edible. SeaVentures does suffer from two things though: 1) the bathrooms are nasty, and 2)there are more cockroaches per square inch than anyplace I have ever been!

All in all, I will go back again. Maybe it's the cockroaches falling of the converted jack-up accommodations platform that keep the marine life so vibrant beneath it!!!

UW Photo Comments The boats aren't set up well for UWPs, but the resort has good rinse tanks and tables. As for the subject matter, it's very easy to shoot through a roll of film under the resort. Yes, I still shoot film!!
