Comments We went to this area of Japan to dive with Bommie Dive Center and their famous Shark Scramble. This is a shark feed dive which attracts literally hundreds of Banded Houndsharks, along with the a myriad of other sea creatures, such as Red Stingrays, Asian Sheepshead and large groupers. The owner of the Dive Center forged a deal with local fisherman, who used to catch lots of these sharks as by catch in their fishing nets. This was costly to the fisherman and deadly to the sharks. Kan, the owner, started to feed the sharks in a sandy area away from the fisherman's nets. It took him years to get the usually shy sharks to come to his feeds. Once the sharks got used to Kan and the feedings, he began to take guests and built a successful business. The fisherman are happy because the sharks no longer get caught in their nets, and the feeds attract hundreds of sharks for the divers to enjoy, while keeping them safe from the nets. A win win for all. Additionally, the reefs surrounding the sandy feed area are quite healthy and loaded with life. We found Pinecone Fish, nudibranchs, lion fish, eels and an assortment of other tropicals and subtropical fish. The dive center is set up for the comfort of the divers. There are changing rooms and warm showers available, as well as rental equipment. It is definitely something to check out if you are looking for something different and exciting.
