Comments Wakatobi is truly an underwater garden. I have never seen such pristine reefs and underwater life. It is also quite a treat to have the dive sites all to ourselves. Wakatobi resort only accomodates 22 guests at the resort and the group is split to avoid crowding at dive sites. It was nice to not have dualing dive boats over dive sites. The dive guides were excellent at finding critters and showing us cool stuff (thank you John and Paul you guys are awesome) but we were also allowed to dive our own profile and go our own way. The only restriction was time, which was usually 75". There was also unlimited shorediving on an awesome housereef. The currents could be challenging, but the boat was always right there to pick us up - regardless of how far we drifted and how spread out we were.

The resort was my idea of a perfect island paradise. It is extremely remote and its amazing how good the facilities are. The bungalow my husband and I stayed in was very comfortable and clean with coffee, tea and a small fridge for cold beverages. Nothing quite beats getting up in the morning and watching the sun rise from your own private beach! The long house was the place to be for socializing with plenty of good conversation and even a movie if you wanted. Usually after a day of diving we would all sit around and watch videos taken that day! The food was very good with lots of variaty - and always plenty of it. There were plenty of beverages for a slight fee and coffee, tea and water were free. For the coffee snobs of the world (yes, I am one of them) there was even an espresso machine for a very nominal fee of $1.00. The only down side was that the desalinization unit was 'in the shop' back on Bali. We had to use brackish water for our showers, but we always had plenty of fresh water to drink. Not a big deal and only one person at the resort seemed to be bothered by it. Overall, this was an awesome dive trip and I'll be back.

UW Photo Comments Wakatobi really caters to underwater photographers. There is a seperate room on land for gear and chargers with 110V available. There was always someone available to grab my camera as I surfaced next to the boat and put it on the camera table. Dive guides were very good at showing us good photo ops and finding cool critters. E-6 processing was avialable to those that wanted it, and we were able to watch our videos (or pictures) on the TV after our dives.
