Comments The editor wrote an excellent article in 2018 about Two Fish Bunaken/Lembeh.Read it!!!
I had a standard room in Bunaken [it was very large, but decorated in college dorm chic].I had a cabin in Lembeh that was more nicely decorated.I paid the single supplement which was only about $15 more/day [a true bargain!].
The only complaints were the food didn't have a lot of variety and the fish was dry [I brought tartar sauce from the U.S].Still,it was adequate and you won't go away hungry. Also, the internet was intermittent at best, especially on an Apple device!.If I could get 10 minutes a day in the dining area,I was lucky!
Wear microfiber clothing!Go only in the dry season!
The wall diving was spectacular!!! Both vertical walls totally encrusted in colorful corals and sloping walls with soft corals on top were second to none!My dive guide,Christian was very good.I tipped him 50,000 Rupiah a day [about $4].I think I was the only person tipping the guide and crew directly. They appreciated it and deserved it.Some afternoons,I was the only diver on board. For the rest of the staff,I left 100,000 Rupiah/day.
Transfer from airport and to Lembeh were handled flawlessly!
The biggest complaint and I don't think it makes any difference what resort you stay in Bunaken was the long walk from the resort to the dive boat at low tide through the shallows.
The staff was pretty good [especially if they spoke English].
Absolutely take advantage of the 150,000 Rupiah [$13] massage every day!!1
Would I go back?Absolutely, but I'd spend more time in Lembeh where everything is better. For my money,Lembeh/Bunakken was definitely better than a Raj Ampat live aboard!
