Comments We booked 3 days at Tasik Ria to dive pristine reefs after our week in Lembeh's muck. I'm sorry we did that, because ending the trip with a poor experience tarnished my memories of northern Sulawesi.

Problems started on arrival, when we were told we could do a shore dive that afternoon. But they kept changing the schedule and pushing back the time of the dive orientation, so ultimately I ended up doing a dusk dive (without lights) during the orientation some of us never got. There seems to be a real lack of communication between the hotel staff and dive staff which showed up in both scheduling issues and food, as lunch is sent out with us on the boat.

My dive buddy is a strict vegetarian, and she contacted the resort at the time we booked the trip and confirmed that they could handle her needs. Yet when we showed up, the kitchen staff was surprised by this and had nothing for her. All meals were buffet style, and often the food had been sitting in warming pans for way too long. At least there was a nice assortment of dishes available, and by the second night, even more than one vegetarian option.

The dive boat was very crowded, with wetsuits literally hanging directly above (and on top of) our rigs. This was annoying as we were going out all day for three dives in a row. At least when it wasn't raining we could hang out upstairs.

UW Photo Comments Their boats go out all day for three dives in a row, with no option for charging or working on your camera between dives. The rinse bucket on the boat also was not large enough for an SLR with dual strobes. While the camera room at the dive shop was pretty good, it was a very long way from there to the boats to carry our rigs.
