Comments We came here after diving in Lembeh for a week, and despite wind and some choppy seas, Gallen (one of the managers of the dive operation at Siladen) arranged a wonderful transfer by boat from Lembeh to Siladen. We did three dives along the way, including one featuring hot springs bubbling up in 70 feet; the boat transfer costs about $440, so split between four people, it's more than worth it. We booked a beachfront "luxury villa", which we enjoyed--spacious and comfortable, and with its many movie channels, enjoyed the guilty pleasure of TV after the dive day ended. The resort is full board with a nice bar, and we found the food to range from okay to very good. One thing to note is time of year: we were there during July, and there were many families from Europe with children. The kids were, frankly, a pain, noisy sometimes and something of an anomaly on a dive vacation. You might want to avoid European summer vacation and Australian school holidays. The dive operation was wonderful, and we loved not having to tote and set up our gear. We indulged in some private dives, with the boat and guide to ourselves, well worth the charge; private dives allowed our night dives to be contemplative and avoided over-lighted photographers. The diving varies widely depending on the nature of the site. The Bunaken dives tend to be walls, with strong currents and often downcurrents; they feature larger fish and lots of turtles. We tended to prefer the dives along the mainland, combining sandy slopes with small Lembeh-style critters and coral reefs. The dives by Manado Tua island were particularly excellent. Expect strong currents on most dives.
The spa was a real pleasure, and Indri's "Back Relief" massage was amazing. Very reasonable, too.
