Comments This was my fourth trip to Komodo; The other three were with Larry Smith making my perspective jaded by having dived with the best. My first trip to Komodo was in 1998. I was not disappointed by the Seven Seas. What impressed me most on this trip was the quantity of large fish. Sharks were sighted on most dives and some sites such as Castle Rock were thick with large sharks. Manta also were not uncommon. The aptly named Manta Alley gave a most impressive show. I do not remember seeing the quantity of reef and pelagic fish on any of my previous three trips. If this is the result of National Park status and enforcement by Rangers, it gives us hope that the environment can regenerate itself when given a chance. The other great dive sites such as Cannibal Rock, Val's Rock, Pink Beach, Small World, Fish Bowl Etc did not disappoint. The anchorage in Horseshoe Bay is still the best place to wake up and watch Komodo Dragons, monkeys and wild pigs.
The Seven Seas is a very comfortable boat. Roomy with lot of public space. a large dive deck with some of the best dive boat food that I have had. The Staff was outstanding and a tribute to Captain Mark's management and organizational skills.
Negatives are few. Having been spoiled by the critter finding ability of Larry Smith I was a bit disappointed by the dive guides. There is current and that is what makes some of the dive sites great. Divers uncomfortable with current should reconsider Komodo as a destination. If you enjoy wine bring your wallet because wine pricing on the boat is very high.
I highly recommend this boat
