Comments This was our second live-aboard dive vacation. We booked this Komodo trip based upon on a good experience with Peter Hughes in Belize.

The Komodo boat was comfortable, but not as nice as the Hughes boat in Belize. If you are prone to sea sickness, then this boat may be a challenge. Crossing the Lombock straight a lot of experienced dive travelers were sick or couldn't sleep for a couple days.

Power on the boat is 220, but make sure your 220 to 110 converter is round. Indonesia uses sunken round power outlets that will not fit square converters. Some cabins have furniture that is not secured. Check your cabin for mobile furniture, flowers and any other items that may crash in the night during bumpy seas.

If you don't bring it with you, then don't expect it to be available on the boat. There was limited rental gear as is common in remote sites.

Water temperatures ranged from 77F to 83F. My wife and I layered with 3mm full suits plus 3/5 hooded vests for most dives. There were some divers who preferred 7mm full suits.

Currents were highly variable. One site had 3 knot currents the first time and light current the second time. It was worth fighting the current since we saw several mantas up close. You'll want to bring a reef hook to keep these situations manageable.

We had two new divers on the boat. I was impressed how the staff made sure they had alternative dives when the conditions were challenging even for experienced divers.

Overall this was some of the best diving we've done. Plenty of fish and superior coral gardens. Our guides Gary and Claire did a good job choosing sites during the start of the diving season when currents and visibility were changing by the hour.
