Comments This will be a brief review, mostly to echo all the fine praise that has been directed toward this place, then address some minor additional issues that are particular to our circumstances.

First, the marine life is truly amazing, a full notch above the Manado region and a quarter notch above Kimbe Bay, to reference our nearest benchmarks. The quality of the resort is also exemplary…staff, food, accommodation, dive operation all world-class, the best we have ever enjoyed. However, to be fair this resort is more expensive than our previous experiences, so this comparison is colored by an element of “you get what you pay for.”

Now, on to some special issues:
If you are a vegetarian you will be pleased to find 2-4 meat free dishes at every meal, and regular protein sources through beans and occasional tempeh and tofu dishes (most but not every day).

If you are a birder, you will enjoy some special birds on trails through the resort; 15 species, 5 life birds, for us. We dipped on the Wilson’s and Red Birds of Paradise because they won’t schedule a trip unless the weather forecast is perfect. They want to minimize the chance of failure and a guest paying for $100 just for a pre-dawn walk-about.

If you wish to identify many fish species, the richness is amazing but the guides (like most dive guides) are far better at finding things than helping to identify species beyond the main attractions (whether pygmy seahorse or whale shark). One notable example, our guide found a mushroom coral pipefish and back on the boat identified it as a snake. Some of this is tied to the guides’ limited English; which could also be an issue if an emergency arose.

If you need toilet access during the day, note that the boats do not have toilets and surface intervals are usually on public jetties also lacking facilities. This could be constraining because many of the most interesting dive sites are reached during day-long trips.

If you need fast internet connection, it was glacially slow during our visit but a significant upgrade is on the horizon.

In sum we would highly recommend a visit here depending on your own unique needs.
