Comments First, the not great news: the rooms ,while new and nice do not have screens or mosquito nets and it is buggy - the skeeters will get in. The food is served in miniscule portions and is chef's choice except for breakfast. For example, the best dessert was ice cream and we each literally got a tablespoon of it. The other desserts were strange = avocado mousse and floating jello things. No pork as the resort is next to a Muslim village. They did accomodate my vegetarian companion quite nicely - some how she got enormous sized meals. There are a couple trips offered to the few sites of interest but Ambon is basically a utilitarian place. The beach is made of small rocks and there is no dock so you have to wade to the boat - if you don't use hard bottom booties, bring some old tennies for the jaunt. The other hard to miss downside is the considerable amount of trash on and under the water in this area. You are not going to care about any of the above however because the diving is sooooo good. This is the land of huge seahorses (at least 3 species), chubby mandarin fish that come out in the daytime and pose for photos, free swimming ribbon eels, juvenile pinnate batfish, amazing nudis (many laying eggs) , wonderpus and frogfish of all sizes and colors. Also seen were a saron shrimp, halimeda crab, some kind of beautiful juvenile moray with gray body and a pure orange head that nobody could identify and sitting regally on a scrap of color-coordinated fabric a BLUE RING OCTOPUS. There were holes filled with 5-6 eels, ornate ghost pipefish, both paddle flap and weedy rhinopias, several cuttlefish, etc. We did not see the "new" psychedelic frogfish, but the guides are always on the lookout. The currents are extremely variable, some times ripping, but there are always totally current free sites. The staff are gracious and the management responsive. While we were there a Nitrox system was installed and the dining room floor got tiled. We are planning a return trip.

UW Photo Comments No provision for cameras on boat - just covered with a towel. Excellent camera room at resort. The many and spacious rinse tanks were in full sun at the time of our visit with a shade cover promised in the near future.
