Comments Takes a few flight connections to get there (5 in our case, coming from the east coast of the United States), but once you arrive in Ambon, Maluku Dive Resort is there to meet you and it is only about a ten minute van ride to the resort. The bungalows are very roomy, with 24 hour hot water and electricity and a very nice workspace for cameras (if you don't want to use the dedicated photo room. The bungalows were not quite finished when we were there, but should be completed soon. There are very nice, even in their unfinished condition. They have three gourmet chefs to pamper you, most of the dishes are Indonesian-Asian, although breakfast is pretty much Western standards. The meals were beautifully presented, and very tasty. They will take special requests. The dive operation is well run, most boats departed on time, and dive times were usually 60 minutes or more. Some dives had current, but most did not. This location rivals Lembeh for weird, macro critters. The dive guides are very good at finding the rare and unusual photo opportunities. The psychedelic frogfish is what everyone wants to see, but there are many more unusual things to see. We stayed two weeks, diving three dives a day, repeated most dive sites and saw new things on every dive. The house reef is great for night dives, but the rocky shore can be a bit difficult to navigate. If you dive outside of the bay, there is very nice coral and tropical fish. Within the bay is primarily muck diving, but that is where all the weird and unusual critters choose to live. Would highly recommend to anyone into muck diving.
