Comments This was my third visit to KBR over a decade. I am pleased that the resort retains its high level of comfort and service. The accommodations are immaculate, spacious, and traditional with plenty of contemporary updates. There have been some changes to the meal services, and the food (especially the fish dishes) is delicious. A notable upgrade is the increase in efficiency in the dining room – meals are served quickly, a welcome change. There is no longer a breakfast buffet, but service from the menu is so fast, it really doesn’t matter. You can still order lunch in advance following your first morning dive, and it will be served to you within moments of your arrival in the dining room after your second morning dive.

Although under different management, the dive operation is basically unchanged, and remains very friendly and efficient. Gear is respected and treated well, especially camera gear. Dive briefings are better than most, even if the plan isn’t exactly followed every time. The dives depart at respectable times, and there are adequate surface intervals. There is an option to replace an afternoon dive with the not-to-be-missed dusk Mandarin Fish dive, at a discount. And the House Reef is “always open”.

The guides work hard to find the weird and wonderful. But for some unknown reason (whether luck or other issues), the number of unusual critters seems to have declined noticeably over the years. While a decade ago a diver couldn’t go 20 feet without seeing something amazing, on some dives ten or fifteen minutes of searching would pass before finding a single nudibranch. That’s not to say that the diving isn’t still unique and remarkable – just that the sites seem to be showing decline similar to the rest of the underwater world. Depending on the luck of the draw, you will still see pygmy seahorses, hairy frogfish, harlequin shrimp, flamboyant cuttlefish, ghost pipefish, boxer crabs, sea dragons and more.

UW Photo Comments Dedicated to photographers, with a building designed completely for photographers. Excellent rinse basins at the dock, but (curiously) no water basins (but dedicated dry baskets) on the boats. In their defense, the trips to the sites were often only 5-10 minutes maximum, and no one complained about not having their cameras submerged at all times.
