Comments This brand new resort just opened in August 2006. Built from scratch by the owners of the AquaOne liveaboard boat, the resort is small and intimate (only 10 bungalows housing 20 people), but the rooms are large, fresh and clean with the best beds, pillows, comforters I've ever encountered at a dive resort. The bathrooms are large with 2 showers--one in the bathroom and another just outside in a sheltered little patio accessed from the bathroom. The staff is understandably new and still in the training stages, but very accommodating and trying very hard to make our stay perfect in every way. The resort is still evolving--the room safes, decorating effects such as wall pictures, etc. had not yet arrived from Thailand. The bungalows are arranged in a horseshoe around a garden area which will soon be landscaped with ponds and tropical plants. The fresh water infinity pool is completed, but additional lounge chairs were still en rouge from Thailand. In a few more months, this resort will be complete, but in the meantime, we lacked for nothing and we all completely enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning and seeing the final results.

Underwater photographers go to Indonesia for the little, odd stuff, and we had plenty of that. The divemasters were all from the area and found all the great muck diving photo subjects--frog fish, rhinopias, ghost pipefish, flamboyant cuttlefish, lots of nudibranchs, mantis shrimp, a baby mimic octopus, etc. Many lion fish posed openly out over the dark sand. But we also dove several spectacular tropical reefs (ie California Dreamins) that compared to the best of Fiji and Thailand. No dive was shorter than one hour. Depth was really not an issue (my computer never went past 80 ft), and no one ever had to return to the boat before they wanted to--one of the divemasters just stayed in the water nearby until you decided that your air was low. Because the dive sites were all near shore and the boat--and we were all experienced divers--we were trusted to know when our air was low, to allow for a safety stop, and return to the boat safely.

UW Photo Comments Each UWP had a basket into which we put our cameras each morning and the crew carried the basket to and from the boat each dive. There are 3 large camera only rinse tanks and a large room on shore strictly for UWP's complete with electrical outlets above each of the 20 camera stations. The room is locked each night and a security guard patrols the premises at all times.
