Comments Gangga Island was the final leg of a 12 day trip (Buyat Bay, Lembeh, and Gangga).

Resort: The resort is nice, but I was not overly impressed. The rooms are all lined along the beach, room 1 being closest to everything. The rooms are nice, but small. Fresh flowers upon arrival and after room cleanings was a nice touch. The bathroom, while indoors, was very nice and spacious. There was a nice porch as well. The restaurant was huge (the resort holds quite a few people) and the food was good. I did not feel that there was a good variety of food available. Breakfast was buffet style and ok, lunch and dinner was order from a menu...lunch took a long time as a result. I did enjoy the barbeque dinner they had one night. Staff was not overly friendly and I had to repeatedly ask for things (i.e. water), or just get it myself. I was completely shocked when they tried to serve me instant coffee instead of local coffee! The grounds were nice (coastal feel). The pool is beautiful and so refreshing. The spa was nice and prices were good. Beware, the drinks/beer are very expensive!! The resort had more of a European feel than an Indonesian feel to me.

Dive operation: Gangga Divers picked us up at Lembeh Resort and we dove our way to Gangga Island Resort. The dives on our way to the resort were great and the water was beautiful. The dive boat we were on was very small. We had 9 divers with all of our gear crammed together such that we could hardly get into our gear when getting ready for a dive. There was not much space to get ready, we had to get ready in order of dive groups....you did a giant stride off the boat, but had to step up onto the side of the boat in order to do so. There was nothing to hold onto and the side was slipery, you had to be very careful! The crew did not do much to help you out either, so we basically helped each other out. They completely disassembled everyones gear between dives and nothing ever got put back the way it should or where it should. One divers weights were found in another divers BC pockets! You had to check everything. You had to search for your equipment, even though we each had a basket where we put our gear after each dive. They did not let you analyze your own nitrox tanks... they had done it at the dock and put a label on the tank with the percentage. I did not at all like that. We broke up into small groups of 3 or 4 per divemaster. The divemasters did not do much...the first dive of the day they would make a small effort to find things, on the second dive they did nothing. I did not go on a night dive but 2 people in our group did...the crew was very unattentative and more concerned about texting on their phones than working. The dive operation was one of the worst ones I have encountered in all my years of diving.

Diving: The diving was nice but not as good as what we had been diving in Buyat and Lembeh. The dives we did on our way to Gangga Island were the best of this portion of the trip.

I was completely unimpressed with Gangga Island Resort and their dive operation. It was touted as this high-end resort, but I did not find that to be the case. The diving was good, but not good enough for me to want to go back to that specific area, there are lots of better places around there that have much better diving.
