Comments Kima Bajo is a fairly new resort on the West side of North Sulawesi facing Bunaken Marine Park where most of the diving takes place.

EcoDivers is the dive operator at the resort. The boat rides to the dive sites are fairly short at no longer than 30 minutes. The dive boats are fairly spacious with marine head and fresh water shower. Nitrox is available. Water, fruit and cookies provided on the boat. 2-tank AM dives and 1-tank PM dives are standard. The PM dives are usually in the Bunaken Marine Park and the PM dive at local sites off of North Sulawesi. These sites offer a variety of conditions including walls, coral gardens, sandy bottom and some muck. Thus there is a variety of marine life -- schooling reef fish, some sharks, green turtles, bumphead parrotfish, lionfish, scorpionfish, eels, anemonefish and lots of small critters (nudibranchs, crabs, shrimp, seahorses). The dive crew is very friendly and helpful. They are also very good at finding critters especially for macro shots.

The most disturbing experience regarding Bunaken Marine Park is the amount of trash in the water especially plastic bottles and bags. This was especially the case around the southeast corner of Bunaken Island.

Kima Bajo Resort is located on a hillside overlooking the islands of the Bunaken Marine Park. The rooms are very spacious and all have great views facing West so the nice sunsets are in view. They also have nice outdoor showers. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The wireless internet is slow and intermittent. Also, the power went off a couple of times a day for 3-5 minutes. The food is very good with a variety of western and Indonesian dishes. The wine is extremely expensive and very limited in choice.

In summary, the diving and dive facilities were very good as were the accommodations and the food. I would indeed return to Kima Bajo.

UW Photo Comments The dive operator, EcoDivers, has a nice camera room with towels, compressed air, charging stations and plenty of room. A ceiling fan but no A/C. The crew will handle your camera gear to and from the dive boats. Large rinse tank on dive boat.
