Comments This was an add-on to a liveaboard trip. We chose Dive into Ambon because they are located between Ambon Bay and the eastern side of the island, providing access to both ocean coast diving and muck diving in the bay.

The resort was very pleasant and pretty. Rooms were comfortable (beds were great!) and the owner/managers, Kaj and Barb, were very accomodating, flexible and service-oriented. Food was okay - breakfast was cold but eggs were good; lunches were on the boat and dinner was good Indonesian food.

We were there for 4.5 days of diving. After one day on the ocean side, part of our group (me included) chose to dive the bay and muck sites the rest of the time. Ocean dives were so-so; muck dives were amazing! There is one muck site (white sand) relatively near the resort - that was great.

Transit times were long - for Ambon Bay, it's 10-15 minutes by van, then 45 minutes by boat. It made for long days - a 4-dive day involved leaving at 9am and returning about 9pm. Dives on the ocean side were also 35-45 minutes away by boat.

There are 2 8-person boats - one in each location. That would seem to limit the diving in each place, but it worked out fine for us - we got to dive muck all the days we wanted to.

Muck diving was amazing! The north side of the bay was standard muck, including a night dive at Twilight Zone that went from sand to trash dump to coral bommies - the most amazing collection of critters! The small jetty held 7 species of eels. South side was also great, with more coral and lacy Rhinopias!

Dives were not limited by time, which meant that most of them lasted around 75 minutes for the easy-breathers.

UW Photo Comments Great camera room - well lit, plenty of room, very comfortable and functional. On the day boats, cameras in plastic tubs, which was fine. Tables in the cabin provided a work space to change batteries - we used our towels on the table.
