Comments Taman Sari is a traditional Bali style resort on a beautiful property. It has a pool and bar area and gorgeous gardens. It is right on a beach just up from a local fishing village. It is one of the places where they started the reef reclamation project by building underwater metal sculpture, with low voltage electricity, thus attracted corals and fish life. You can snorkel or dive right there. There are also several turtle conservation locations where you can see the turtle nursery and for about a $10 contribution, can release a baby turtle into the ocean. There are a variety of rooms from single bungalows to large villas. Turtle and Bird are the best located to the restaurant and adjacent dive shop (Bali Diving Academy). It's a short walk from the rooms. They keep all your gear at the shop and organize it in individual bags when necessary (smaller items, etc.). There are showers and places to hang gear. The staff will rinse your gear if you like. DBA is owned by an Italian, so there tend to be a lot of Europeans. However, I was not the only American. The reefs right off shore have a nice variety of life. The side trip to Menjagen Island (means "deer"--so there are wild deer out there as well as a Hindu temple) is worth it for the difference in underwater topography. Secret Bay is a fantastic muck dive. This is definitely a critter diving location, so if that's not your thing, it might not be your place. However, if someone in your party is a non-diver, this is a beautiful resort with nice snorkeling. Of course, as usual in tropical water, cover as much of your body as possible, even when snorkeling, as there can be lots of stinging things in the water. Taman Sari is a 4 hour drive over the mountains from the airport in Denpasar. The resort will provide the transportation for a fee. If you've never taken that ride in Bali, it is gorgeous, with rivers, lakes, rice paddies, botanical garden (with tree canopy obstacle course, zip lines, etc.) and a spice market in Bedugal. There are cute places to eat and guest houses and little resorts to stay in the mountains. Just look up all the other things to see and do on that drive.

UW Photo Comments Neither the dive shop nor the resort has a dedicated camera space, but there is plenty of space in the rooms to set up your camera. There are also a few tables at the dive shop to put cameras. There are good rinse tanks.
