Comments This was my second visit to Alami Alor.

The sea life is amazing. The highlight of the trip was blue whales. One day we spotted 3 from the boat. Several divers jumped in to snorkel with them. They were also spotted on a different day. The corals are in great shape. More fish life than I've seen anywhere. And there are tiny critters, too. Nudibranchs, cuttlefish, frogfish, octopus. The camera room is terrific.

The currents can be too strong to dive in; but dive sites are chosen based on what currents are expected to be. One one trip we went to 4 dive sites before we found one with reasonable current. On days when the current may be quite strong, a choice is offered between a much dive and one with more current.

The resort is lovely with individual cottages. Wifi is available only in the lounge/dining area and can be spotty. Food is good to excellent, but with a lot of fish. I got tired of fish and they substituted chicken for me. There is tempeh at every meal. My only complaint is the desserts. Too many. Some are amazing. I tried to limit myself to one a day, unsuccessfully.

I can't say enough about the staff. They are determined to make each guest's visit as perfect as possible.

Getting there is a challenge but well worth it. I hate the Lion terminal in Jakarta and avoid it like the plague. So, I flew from Bali. Lion sells ticket Bali-Kupang-Alor. This requires an overnight stay in Kupang. They sell an afternoon connection between Kupang and Alor which elimates the overnight stay, but it has flown once since April. Literally, once. I booked the same day connection and found out about the cancellation of the afternoon flight while in Singapore so I went to the Lion office in Singapore to have it fixed with the overnight in Kupang. I was able to change the Bali-Kupang flight to the day before so I didn't lose a day at Alami Alor. For the overnight in Kupang, I stayed at the Neo Hotel, only minutes from the airport. It was $27, and modern and clean. (Booked on booking.com) Lion doesn't accept US Visa or Mastercard, but it does take American Express cards.

UW Photo Comments The camera room is large with space for about 6 photographers (Maximum occupancy for the resort is 14). It could accommodate more but it would be crowded. There are surge protectors with either European or US outlets. My only complaint is that there is only one airgun.
