Comments Our group consisted of 17 divers with experience ranging from 20 to over 600 dives. Turquoise Bay is a very nice resort with several of the rooms built along a terraced hill. The rooms have two comfortable full-sized beds, dresser, good a/c, a TV, coffee maker, and a well-appointed bathroom. The balcony receives plenty of sun for drying equipment although most used the area around the pool for that purpose. The internet was free and available in the room and the restaurant. I found that the room one worked well and the restaurant one hardly at all. The staff was very friendly and eager to please. The meals were buffet style and quite delicious. The bar offered a variety of drinks but was limited in the choice of brands. Next to the restaurant is a lovely pool with a limited amount of shade. It is adjacent to a covered patio.
The dive shop (Subway Waterworks) is a well-run organization that offers valet service. After we checked in, we were given a briefing on the dive operations. There was a good emphasis on safety and how the diving for the week would be conducted.
A lot of the reef was covered with algae. There was plenty of soft coral but not much hard coral. There were many dive sites near the resort but several in the group complained that those sites were boring. Much of the area had been over fished and there really wasn’t much to see. There were very few lobsters and small critters were also rare. The wall dives were better and we enjoyed the swim throughs. There was very little current but most dives had a strong surge.
Many enjoyed the service and ambience of the resort enough to say they would return but personally I would prefer a location with healthier reefs.
