Comments This holiday was planned around Anthony's Key Summer Dolphin Camp for my granddaughters, 5 and 8. They had a wonderful time! The groups were small, so they got to spend lots of time with the bottlenose dolphins, learned to snorkel, got into scuba gear (only the 8-year old was allowed underwater - just 6 feet deep), went horseback riding, visited a nature park, etc. My daughter got 6 to 8 hours a day free of her kids to enjoy snorkeling, horseback riding, and relaxing while her sister and I dived.

Accommodations on the Key were spacious, clean, and air-conditioned. Meals were well-prepared and served in a multi-level dining area overlooking the Caribbean sea from a hillside except for one lunch and one dinner offered in a picnic area on the Key. Every fish dish we had was delicious - moist and tender. Every staffer we encountered was polite, friendly and helpful.

The dive operation is well-organized. Anthony's Key operates 3 48-foot and 4 42-foot dive boats. 12 to 16 divers were assigned to each boat (not all were needed and used during my stay) and served by the same captain and divemaster for the week. Most of the 30+ dive sites are very close, so the boat returned to the resort after the 8:30, 10:30, and 2:30 dives. Night dives were offered on a couple of evenings, but we didn't go.

The boats chum on some dives, so mooring at a site brings out the large grouper and snappers, usually black and gray respectively. Sometimes more than a dozen were under the boat. Other than two wreck dives (a 220-foot and a 300-foot coastal cargo ships), it's wall diving. The area shoreward of the top of the wall seemed mostly covered with coral with a scattering of small sand patches. We found the usual collection of small reef fish, but other than parrotfish not in large numbers. We also noted a lot of algae on the reef; very little elkhorn or staghorn coral; and few urchins, sea cucumbers, anemones and mollusks or mollusk shells.
