Comments The Aston Kona By The Sea is a very nice condo about 15 minutes from Honakohau Harbor where all the dive boats for the Kailua Kona area are located. There is also a Costco nearby. We thought the active volcano would be a big plus and it was fun to go see it but the VOG it creates makes our L.A. smog look mild by comparison. Our Condo had a sunset view but we only saw nice colors 2 nights in 2 weeks. There was a big south swell all the time we were there but Wanna Dive always found a sheltered area with lots to see the 6 days we dove. They even took us out 2 days when my wife and I were the only divers. They also took us on a spectacular Manta Ray night dive with 1 other couple. I highly recommend Wanna Dive. We put a total of 1000 miles on our rental car the days we didn't dive. The Big Island has a lot to see but some of it is more than 100 miles from Kailua. If we go back I will stay at Hilo 3 or 4 days instead of driving back to Kailua, 100 miles in the dark and rain 3 times.

UW Photo Comments Wanna Dive is a 24 foot boat with a maximum of 6 divers so space is at a premium if it is full. They provide camera only, fresh water tubs and do a good job of handing down cameras after your back roll entry and putting it back in the tub when you reboard. The skipper, Steve Frisbie and dive master Cathy are UWPs themselves so they are extra helpful. The alternate dive master, Bob had a 6 inch Etch a Sketch type slate and wrote the names of the unusual critters he found so I could shoot the critter and his name
