Comments This is the fourth year in a row that I've done all my dive trips on Kauai with SeaSport Divers in Koloa. They have a great dive shop, with all the gear and accessories you might need for diving, snorkeling and beach attire too. The professional staff remembers me from year to year, and always greets me by name when I come in the shop or when I am going out diving with them. It's nice that they keep my information in their computer, so I don't need to repeat it all each time I go diving with them.

I always sign up for the morning dive boat, which includes two tanks, and is for intermediate to advanced divers. Nitrox is additional. You can rent gear, or bring your own. They don't charge extra for use of a wetsuit, tanks, weights or weight belt, which is nice. Upon return from the dive, there are lots of peg hooks to hang your personal gear on after a rinse in their huge clean water rinse tank out back of the shop. I let mine drip, while watching the video (available for purchase) that the divemaster shot during our two dives. Morning dives start at 7:30 am at the shop check-in, and return to the shop by 12:30 pm, so it's a 5 hour morning. Bring your bathing suit, a towel, a fleece jacket (for the surface interval), flip flop shoes, and a waterproof bag to keep them in. And an underwater camera if you have one.

The ride to the Kukuiula small boat harbor is a short 5 mins. After the crew loads all tanks and gear, divers are invited onboard the Anela Kai, a 48 ft vessel, for safety briefings on both boat diving and on boat safety and emergency proceedures. On the way to the first dive site, a dive briefing is given on that site in particular. Tanks are filled to 3,000 lbs, which gives a normal diver a good 60 minute dive, with plenty of air still in the tank at the end of the dive. If your consumption is faster, your dive will end sooner.

The boat crew from most of my dives (5 trips) this February, were Capt Andrew, or Capt Ryan, and Ryan, Niko, Kyle and Justin as divemasters. All very professional, long time employees of SeaSport, which says a lot for the companies operation. They are all enthusiastic, love the ocean and enjoy sharing their knowledge with the divers. If there are over 7 divers, they split the group in two, with a divemaster for each, with less experienced divers grouped together.

Surface intervals are not wasted. The captain will look for whales, manta rays, spinner dolphins and the like. During one surface interval, the captain told us to don our mask, snorkel & fins, and we all snorkeled with a pod of 50 - 60 Spinner Dolphins!! There is always some great creature to see. Bottled water, cookies, and granola bars are on board as snacks. There is a camera table and fresh water rinse bucket, and hot water hose sprayers on the back deck to rinse off the salt water or warm up between dives. The onboard head is up in the bow.

The second dive is most often Sheraton Caverns - always a crowd pleaser. But not always, if several of the divers on board have already done the Caverns several times. Lava rock formations that divers can swim through and glimpse Hawaiian Sea Turtles slumbering in the well lite caves. I've done this dive over 25 times, and it's always fun, with lots of fish and sea creatures on top of the caverns at about 35 ft. A great safety stop there, watching the turtles come up to the surface for air.

We did several different dive sites along the south shore of Kauai, including Tutrle Bluffs, Zac's Pocket, Brennecke's Ledge, and Shipwreck Ledge, the last two done as drift dives.

Back on board, it's a short trip back to the harbor and the shop. I look forward to diving with them again next February.
