Comments KAII Service was fabulous. Great food, friendly & effective crew. Weather & seas were perfect. Manta Mania night dive was spectacular. Pelagic Magic Dive was a sweet surprise. I saw only one turtle underwater, and no dolphins underwater.
The Kona Coast underwater is a cool extension of the Kona Coast above water, with lava-flow fingers extending from land into the Pacific. We swam between and over the fingers, and through a few lava tubes. Saw lots of eels, a peacock flounder, crown-of-thorns starfish, and a frog fish due to the divemaster’s sharp eyes.
We dived 5 times a day, the crew getting us in and out of the water efficiently.
The KAII never went more than a few hundred yards offshore, except tor the Pelagic Magic night dive, which makes me wonder if day trips on the Body Glove boat would be just as much fun, and I could stay at the Marriott King Kamehameha in a nice big room...
I stayed on the Island for a week after the dives, doing a Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour (spectacular!), and visiting the beaches, volcanoes, and waterfalls.
Alaska Air service from Baltimore to Kailua-Kona through Seattle was smooth flying.
