Comments Solid performing dive operation with great customer service, equipment, well maintained boat and shop. Kohala Divers is a first class operation and offers the Big Island diver a change of scenary from the more southern diving spots around Kona. Underwater relief and more diverse and numerous coral and underwater topography make diving on the Kohala coast a nice change of pace from the more saturated diving in the south. Reefs and coral are in outstanding condidtion and aquatic life is prolific. Greg and Rebeka Kaufman are the owners and have a great operation here. Greg captains the boat and the slew of instructors and DMs are experienced and very knowledgeable. Solid and concise yet safety conscious and environmentally sensitive dive briefings. Courtesy is wonderful and they are most accomodating. On our 2-tank dive, several divers cancelled and they ran the boat for only two of us...which we very much appreciated given they probably made next to nothing n trying to accomodate us. Of note was that a Tsuanmi arning was issued while on our first dive due to the Samoa earthquake. Since arrival of the first wave wasn't due for 5 hours we made our second dive and then found out the warning had been cancelled. However, the Captain was prepared for immediate dive termination and return to harbor as he listened to the Coast Guard broadcasts continually. Made an interesting time that's for sure! Greg is a great guy and Kelly our DM was superb. For a change of pace and some extremely interesting diving, you can be assurred you'll enjoy diving with them. Nitrox is available and most useful at the depths and dive times. Our dive time was 62 minutes. Water temps were a comfortable 80-81 degrees, boat was in top shape with shade...great and comfortable. Locals normally dive with a 5mm wet suit but for as a cold water diver I was comfortable with a 3mm. I keep a 5/3 hooded vest which I use if doing three or more dives in a day...keeps the body temp up. Great value/Outstanding service
