Comments This was our first boat dive of the trip. We booked the dive with Maui Diving Scuba Center in Lahaina. They made arrangements for us to dive with Ed Robinson's Scuba Adventures.

I was a bit concerned that we were being turfed off to another dive company. Since Maui Scuba had no boats and worked more like a travel agency, we had no choice on such short notice, so we went ahead and booked the trip the day before the dive. Before leaving home, I had read a bit about Ed Robinson's on the Internet. Seemed okay, but I had no real first hand referrals for Ed Robinson's. This was going to be a crapshoot. I was just hoping I wouldn't roll snake eyes...

We were to meet the boat and crew at 0630 at the boat ramp in Kehei. About 25 miles from where we were staying in Puamana.
We arrived shortly after 0600 and waited for something to happen. There were two boats in the water, but neither of them was from Ed Robinson's. So we waited. Shortly later a couple of more boats were pulled into the large parking lot. Neither was from Ed Robinson's. About 0620 or so, here come two big aluminum 32' dive boats each pulled by a big ol' 3/4 ton Ford pickup truck. Each boat had Ed Robinson's Diving Adventures printed along the hull. One was named Sea Diver the other, Sea Spirit. Finally I knew we were in the right place.
Once the crew was settled in and making checks on the trailered boat, I walked over to introduce myself and verify our dive.
I met the skipper of Sea Spirit, which actually was our assigned dive boat. His name was Ken. He asked me to bring over the two other divers in my party. After checking C-cards, he had us fill out the usual paperwork, checked us in and we were introduced to our dive master, Bill Finch. They then took our dive gear aboard and set it up for us.

Bagels, cream cheese, coffee and juice were available for divers and crew to enjoy while the check-ins were completed for each diver.

Each Dive boat would take no more than 12 divers, with two dive masters taking no more than six divers. I was glad of that. At least they weren't running a "cattle boat" operation. The Skipper and crew went out of their way to get to know each diver by name and were each very friendly and made us feel as though we were old friends.

Once underway, Bill came to each diver in his charge and got to know each of us a little better. He asked me what it was I wanted to see while diving and what sort of dive I wanted to do. With that information, he then decided on what would be the best dive site to best fulfill all the needs of his divers. He made a very good decision. (Every one of his divers was happy about each of the two dives they had completed.)

On board drinking water and juice was available for anyone who wanted it. In between dives, large muffins and freshly sliced pineapple was available. (It was the sweetest, juiciest and softest pineapple I had ever tasted!)

Once at our dive site, Bill briefed us on the dive parameters and told us what we might see in the area. He went over hand signals and gave us final instructions before entering the water.

Bill kept constant watch on all of the divers in his charge and was always aware of where each diver was and of their comfort during the dive.

This turned out to be a really nice dive and truly a first class dive boat operation. I have nothing but praise for Ed Robinson's and the crew he has working with him!

I booked a three-tank dive with them when I got back to our beach house. On that dive, David Reader was our dive master and he was no less concerned about my diving safety and enjoyment than Bill was two days before. He too, was an excellent guide and dive master!

On the three tank dives, sandwich ingredients were available after the second dive. They had turkey, ham, roast beef and several types of sliced cheeses, lettuce tomatoes, and whatever kind condiment you wanted, with which to make a sandwich on your choice of bun or bread. Water and different types of sodas were also available.

I plan on returning to Maui for more diving in the future. When I do, it will be with Ed Robinson's Scuba Adventures. I would highly recommend them to anyone I know making the same trip!
