Comments I arrived a day early in Grenada and did one enjoyable day of diving with Aquanauts Divers on Grenada. Dove the Shakem wreck, a good one, and Veronica/reef spotting black spotted & Green moreys, seahorse, lobsters, several small species, etc., a nice morning.
Wind Dancer sent a boat in the afternoon to the hotel to pick up the (6) guests. This was my second time riding Wind Dancer, last was several years ago when it was based in Grand Turk. It is a comfortable boat which serves well for diving. The crew was excellent all around; I don't know how they do it week to week, but they are great hosts, good at their jobs, and just nice people. Guests and crew blended well.
The itineary takes you to two countries, St Vincent and Grenada, a lovely string of islands, a natural for diving. We motored to the northern most islands, Bequia the first day and then St Vincent to start the trip. St Vincent was new to the itinerary. We anchored in Wallilabou Bay on the western side of the island , the site for the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean. Several of the buildings and dock are still there and in use. A beautiful setting. Diving was excellent, indeed we convinced the skipper to stay overnite so we could get in a couple more dives.
Soft and hard coral was healthy and beautiful, lots of sea life, not large but plentiful. Saw many of the Caribbean species including scorpians, octapus, banded schrimp, several types of moreys etc. On
the night dive found 3 Conga eels swimming free in interesting coral formations. Special!
After a half day back in Bequia we transit down to Mayrau to dive there and the nearby Tobago Keys. Weather was good so they took us to the remote easternmost (4 miles out?) island, Sail Rock. It was the highlight of an overall good trip. Countless sharks, some very very large, everywhere, eagle rays swimming in clusters, and the usual other sea life. A really nice experience. The island is exposed to the open Atlantic so the swells and surge was there but manageable. The long ride back in the small tender was pretty exciting as well. The dive on Mayreau was also excellent. A sloping reef with interesting coral, a few sharks and good sea life. These
dives were "heaven" for the photographers.
Proceeded back in Grenadian water to the Isle de Ronde north of the main island of Grenada. These get good reports but our time there was a little disappointing. The seas were causing surge, current and poor viz taking something away. Bad timing for us.
Our last morning back at our home mooring was to see two more good dives. King Mitch is a wreck south east of the island so exposed to the open Atlantic but here we were lucky and had a very good dive. It is deep and best for experienced divers. Sharks, eagle rays, turtles, and a really interesting wreck. Lots of life. Everyone enjoyed it. Did two safety stops (40 and 15 ft) and then did a shallow fun dive on shark reef, a rich reef with loads of small sea life.
Food was very good, DM's were good at the jobs and fun to be with, Skipper Simon and hostess/instructor Andrina tops at their jobs. Weather was generally good but we had our share of windy and rainy days, never really a concern.
