Comments With the most personal and professional help from our Travel Agent(dive@divetahitiblue.com) we were able to create and have the most amazing dive trip since we began diving in 1987. It does help when you e-mail your Travel Agent who happens to live on Moorea right near Tahiti and immediately get a response. We flew Tahiti Airlines(Air Tahiti Nui) direct(12 hours) from JFK in New York. We have always felt that Singapore Airlines was #1 but Air Tahiti Nui is equal or above. All of our connections to and from Tahiti to Rangiroa and return worked perfectly. We had absolutely no problems with overweight luggage as long as we showed our C Cards. We did opt for luxury and very expensive accommodations on Rangiroa. Initially we planned to fly Continental Airlines to Kosrae and spend three weeks there but when we found out that Continental NOW charges $400 for each and every stopover we totally changed our plans even though we knew the French Polynesian euro was very expensive. Why Continental does this totally amazes us(we in the past always stopped over on Hawaii for two to three days without paying anything extra). Our duplex awesome chalet at the Kia Ora was only a five minute walk to Six Passanger Dive Shop the6passengers@mail.pfDive with Serge if he’s there! Everyone speaks english. The entire staff works very hard to make sure you come away with the experiences you came for. Their fills are always 3100+ with clean tanks. You have secure lockers to keep whatever you want during and after dives. We only did 2 dives a day, with a long very surface interval. More dives can be arranged. We actually went back to our chalet to shower, do our logs and relax. They have three zodiacs and most dive sites are no more then ten minutes away. The larger zodiac has a ladder. Never worry about getting back into the zodiacs; all of the boat drivers are "former sumo wrestlers"!!They just drag you in! Our first dive was what Rangiroa is famous for: seven minute boat ride through the pass to open ocean. Back roll in just before the current picks up. Drop down to 140+ ft.(we were assigned a boat with all experienced divers) and glide slowly into the current back into the lagoon. You first see carpets of gray and silvertip sharks cueing in for their meal. Then the current picks up to at least 5-6 knots! At least 1000+ sharks on this dive. The other dives over our six days were either current or just dropping us off the wall at 45 ft. swim out off the wall, drop down to 130+ ft. and look for the school of sharks that come very close by, very close by! Also mantas and almost daily encounters with a family of dolphins who loved hanging around us.On the fairly flat coral plain we saw many morays, school of chevron barracudas and during dusk dives spawning schools of small fish with attack mode to eat the sperm/eggs. This is shark diving like Cocos but without live aboard diving and the ability to wear just a skin. The visibility was amazing. We will definitely go back next summer with the possibility of diving on the Atoll of Fakarava which is one hour away and also has Pass Diving which means currents and therefore many sharks and mantas.
