Comments My last trip to Fiji was three weeks in 1995, so I was quite worried after recent trips to Maldives & Red Sea & Mexico that we would see degraded corals, bleaching, etc.. But the reefs are super healthy! What a relief--they were as nice as I recall from three weeks' diving in 1995. An open ocean pinnacle with the dive site E6 in particular had been wiped out by Hurricane Winston 6y earlier, and appeared completely recovered, although of course the dominant corals were the fast-growing species.

Tons of small critters, SUPER HEALTHY CORALS, huge variety of dive site types (bommies in sand, pinnacles, walls, slopes, swim-throughs, lagoon channels to dive between currents..), what a pleasure to dive in a healthy, pristine place. Saw very little to no evidence of bleaching -- Bel said that they'd had some as the water temps rose, but then temps dropped soon enough (within a couple weeks) for the corals to regain their color and health.

Cruise Directors Mike & Bel were awesome, high energy, and very happy to be on Nai'a and diving Fiji through 2024...they set a very positive and professional tone. Five stars to the entire crew, who all had a smile and were happy to interact as much or as little as passengers liked. There was singing and guitar playing in addition to briefings.

Things to know? Food was generally quite good, and responsive to dietary restrictions, whether gluten or vegetarian. I felt the boat is fairly cramped for the money, especially relative to Emperor Voyager boats in Red Sea and Maldives. Maldives boat has a separate dive boat, so that's not quite fair, but even in Red Sea the cabins are larger and there are outdoors areas for sunbathing (or just reading in the shade), and outdoor dining (important during COVID...read on). The a/c functioned well in cabins, was adjustable individually, and there was no in-cabin smell and no evidence of termites.

Team handled a COVID case on board with aplomb -- Fiji requires a 7 night quarantine in a quarantine hotel, followed by a "fit to fly" inspection by a doctor, which cost $130 each in our case. You should buy the COVID insurance you'll be offered on the immigration website. Be sure to ask for your Wellness Ambassador.
