Comments Moody's is a special, special place...but it is not for everyone nor does it claim to be. The description on the website is accurate, but the photos do not do it justice. The love and care with which Tom and Joan (pronounced Jo Ann) built Moodys shows in every aspect. Not much can be said that you can't read about in other reviews or on other websites, but if you have even the slightest bit of an adventurous spirit, it is not to be missed, particularly while you still have the chance to interact with Tom and hear his stories. He is a true eco pioneer, having developed a green resort before the term existed.

The staff is incredibly accommodating and genuinely seem to care about the guests. There are no staged performances. When you participate in the kava ceremony, you truly get the sense that the staff would be doing the exact same thing whether guests were present or not.

Only having 50 dives under my belt, I don't know how much weight will be given to my review, but it was otherworldly. The reef, which Tom originally explored by freediving, is the star of the show. They have done a great job conserving it, and seeing Joan in her office, scanning the reef with a pair of binoculars for unannounced guests is not an uncommon sight. The fact that the Cousteau resort touts the fact that it dives the Namena reef once a week is a testament to its beauty.

We saw 5-6 sharks each dive, all sorts of soft coral, schooling jacks and mackerel, lionfish, mantas here and there and countless nudibranchs. Dives ranged from wall to drift and bommie. The dive facilities are spartan, however the staff is very adept at fixing free-flowing regs etc on site. The head divemaster, Nigel, is very good at adjusting according to divers abilities and interests. He also runs a very tight operation and his staff responds accordingly.

While I'm not an underwater photographer, another guest was and he seemed to have no problems with the facilities or charging his batteries. Just remember that if you go (and you should), doublecheck your dive gear and bring whatever you need because there will be virtually no way get anything once you're there.
