Comments The diving is always excellent on Dominica, which is why I return most every year. They are doing an excellent job of controlling lionfish, I only saw one adult each day. The reefs are healthy and vibrant.

The staff at AlDive are very safety conscious - they are the only dive shop I use on Dominica, for good reason. But I have a cautionary tale from this trip - make sure you don't change your plans!

I had to reschedule my trip from May to July. I let AlDive know I was changing my plans, and reconfirmed several times. I arrived on July 9, ready to dive on July 10. I called, texted, emailed and even sent FaceBook messages, all to no avail. Only the boat captain responded, saying they would be open Monday. The management at AlDive never responded. I even walked down to the dive shop, but there was absolutely nobody there. Finally, at 11pm on July 10, I got a text: "Are you on Dominica?" Are you kidding me?

By this time, since I couldn't reach anybody for days (I started contacting them days before I left), I had already changed my flights to leave early, and made a reservation at Rosalie Bay, on the other side of the island. (If you want my story about Evergreen, contact me separately.) So, they agreed to pick me up on July 11, and I was able to get in two days of diving (my original plan was to dive five days). Note: the accommodation ratings below are for Rosalie Bay.

So, it cost me a hefty, unreasonable cancellation fee at Evergreen (NOT the cancellation fee posted on their web site), and also cost me extra because I changed my flights, but I'll be back next year. I just won't change my dates again! Apparently that is a very big problem for the business owners on this small island.
