Comments Being a repeat guest to Curacao, we thought we would dive out of the 2 year old luxury Hyatt resort on the east end of the island and get a flavor of diving the unexplored, virgin diving the east end of Curacao offers due to the Hyatts location. We were soon disappointed. In 2010 the Hyatt and Ocean Encounters allowed shore diving from the Hyatt beach but this is no longer allowed in 2011. The dive boat leaves from the Ocean Encounters main facility located at Lions Dive resort then picks up divers at the Hyatt but you get charged the 10% surcharge for diving at the Hyatt resort. The dive sites are the same dive sites Ocean Encounters does from the Lions dive schedule. We missed the virgin East end diving Curacao has to offer and the shore diving we tried in Dec. 2010 with Ocean Encounters at the Hyatt.

Ocean Encounters runs a fine operation and the staff is great but we were expecting the dive boat to leave from the Hyatt as they have a dive boat onsite and dive the east end of Curacao on an uncrowded dive boat.

The Hyatt Plantation Resort Curacao is a beautiful resort, with low occupancy, expensive, tennis, golf along with nice pools and a beach on the Harbor inlet. If you like or want the Hyatt experience then this place and its expense is for you. If you want serious diving on Curacao, this is not the place to stay or dive. I will return to the West End of Curacao for better diving and shore diving like I have enjoyed in Curacao on previous occasions. Bye Bye Hyatt and Ocean Encounters at the Hyatt.
