Comments This was our second trip to Curacao with Go West Diving/All West Apartments. They are located at the west end of the island, about a one hour drive from the crowded and touristy Willemstad. The dive shop offers 2 morning boat dives and one afternoon dive, as well as unlimited shore diving from in front of the resort and from in from of All West Apartments. Because Curacao is out of the hurricane belt and there are no competing dive shops, the dive site schedule is the same each week. We did the morning dives and then shore diving in the afternoons and at night. The diving is fairly relaxed. There were typically 2 divemasters in the water with a group of 10-19 divers. While this sounds crowded, the visibility was outstanding and we were allowed to spread out and dive our own profiles. Most dives were at 40-70 feet, so that the standard one hour dive time worked well for most divers. Dives were a mix of moored and drift dives, depending on the current. We were struck by the health of the reef compared to much of the Caribbean, even though we did see more lion fish than we would prefer. The divemasters and dive shop were very friendly and professional.
All West apartments is associated with the dive shop. It is about 2 kilometers from the dive shop, but the apartment comes with a car or small pickup. When you are picked up at the airport, the driver will stop at the supermarket to allow you to stock up-this is highly recommended since the drive is about an hour and the markets in the west end are small. The apartments are mainly large studios with well-furnished kitchens-we cooked some meals and went out to restaurants for others. Each apartment has a deck that allows a great view of sunsets. There is also a room for gear that includes air tanks and a wash tank, so that you can gear up and walk down the steps to dive. Our group counted ten turtles on the first shore dive from there. The sight is also ideal for night diving. We did one shore dive from in front of the dive shop-Alice in Wonderland- and should have done more.
