Comments Great dive vacation! If you sign up for boat dives with Scuba Du, you get free tanks for shore diving. I recommend diving in the afternoon, 2:00 p.m. Much, much smaller crowds. The boat is smaller and you get the feel of exploring a new area. The dive shop will tell you that the dive requires a 4 diver minimum, but I have seen them leave with 3 divers. Even if the shop says there are not enough divers for an afternoon dive, go ahead and sign up. Generally, other divers end up joining you. Show up at 1:45 p.m and the shop frequently will make it happen.Same goes for the night dive, which by the way was amazing! I saw several octopuses, lobsters and crabs walking around and eels swimming freely. We even saw a squid swim above us. You do need to sign up for the night dive, but I went twice and on each trip we exceeded the 4 diver minimum.

Excellent service by the dive shop. Once you give them your equipment, they take care of the rest. You never have to carry it again. You just look for it already set up on your tank when you go out on your boat dive. You generally dive with two dive masters, one in front of the group and one behind the group. If only 3 or 4 divers in the group, then there is only one dive master. I ended up going on more dives than I had planned and the shop gave me a very nice discount. Bring cash to pay, you will get a much better rate than you would with a credit card.

Sometimes, the morning dives can feel crowded because the group can get up to 12 people. Still I though Scuba Du did a great job of managing the dives.

The Intercontinental is a great hotel. 2 outdoor pools, several restaurants offering a variety of food choices. The smaller outdoor "grill" has 2 for 1 drinks after 6:00. You have to be seated at the grill's bar to get that deal, but you are rewarded with a great view of the ocean. If you still have daylight after happy hour, try snorkeling on the reef to the right of the grill as you face the ocean. Very nice marine life right off the shore. Take your dive light, you will find it to be very useful.

Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel. The amenities and the convenience of walking to the boat to go diving made this our favorite hotel in Cozumel
