Comments My Mother and I were certified in 2008. This was our second trip to Cozumel, and would be my mother's first dives as a certified diver.

We arrived at El Presidente without a reservation. The travel agency my mother used screwed up and gave us a hotel in San Joe del Cabo, which is on the other side of the county. The staff was very helpful and didn't flinch when getting us a room and assured us that everything would be taken care, which it ultimately was.

Scuba Du was the dive outfit at El Presidente. They were fantastic!! They were very nice, patient, and helpful. The divemasters were great; we both felt very comfortable at all times. The fact that we were beginner divers didn't ever come into play. Scuba Du has a set dive schedule which can be found on their website. After our morning dives, they washed all of our gear, hung it out to dry, packed it in our bags, and had it ready-and-waiting on the dock the next day. We really liked this aspect of their service. They were all very friendly. In addition, they were very good at replying to our emails.

The first day we hired a private divemaster just so my mother could get comfortable with scuba again. This was a great experience, but due to the added expense, we decided not to continue with this service.

Overall, the diving was fantastic. Our first dives were Palancar Gardens, Palancar Horseshoe, and Santa Rosa Wall. These were all great dives that maxed out around 75-80 ft. and averaged around 45-50 feet. The coral formations/towers and tunnels/swim-throughs were really the highlights of these dives. The current was always more perceptible on the second dives which included Punta Tunich, Cedral Pass, and Tormentos. The slight current made these dives very relaxing. There always seemed to be more marine life on the second dives. We saw toadfish, eagle rays, turtles, nurse sharks, and many small schools of fish. Our favorite dive was Tormentos. We saw a ton of marine life and managed to stay down almost 1 hour.

We will definitely return to El Presidente resort. Our only complaint was that the restaurant on-site for room service has a hit-and-miss menu. The pizza was absolutely horrible. I didn't expect much, but my mother wanted to try. My MO was to eat the Mexican dishes, all of these were very good. We also enjoyed a nice breakfast every morning on our patio. Very delightful indeed.

Enforced diving restrictions It wasn't really stressed, but it was understood that we would stay relatively close to the divemaster. We were told to come up at 700 psi, but this wasn't really "enforced". I didn't feel like my experience was compromised at all by any restrictions.
