Comments We have been staying at the Scuba Club Cozumel almost since its inception under the Name of Galapagos Hotel. Our younger daughter was married there in 2007 and this trip was to celebrate our 10 year old granddaughter's certification and open ocean dives.
Our family of 7 took a day away from Cozumel to experience the Whale sharks off Isla Mujeres on the mainland. We arranged the trip from home in Florida through cancunwhalesharktours.com with Whale Shark Daddy. We decided on our own boat and hired a professional video photographer. Both decisions proved very fortunate as we were able to devote our time to snorkeling with the sharks with minimal wait time. The photographs and video taken by Mario Chow are superb and an unforgettable keepsake for all of us. "Junior" our guide was superb, and Nestor the boat captain positioned the boat as if were an extension of himself. All of us took the ferry from Cozumel to Cancun at 6:00 for about $20 per, each way.45 minutes later we were picked up by a van arranged for a 45 minute comfortable ride to the marina.
Another 45 minute boat ride aboard the 26ft twin engine very comfortable modern boat, and we arrived at what can only be described as a once in a lifetime wonder
An estimated 60-80, 15 -25 foot fish placidly scooping up plankton with their front-end loader moths agape. Junior helped us position ourselves so the Sharks would cruise by us within 3 -5 feet and we would have to dodge the tail fine as they went by. We enjoyed this incredible experience for a good 4 hours , after which we went to a shallow water beach, ate ceviche prepared by Nestor and drank cold soft drinks and beer. The price for this incredible adventure was less than $2000 for all of us. Worth every penny. We got calm water, excellent visibility and a lucky choice of operator, guide and photographer.

thanks so much for this information on the whale sharks...I wondered where you saw them when I read the overall review.

The Whale sharks we were with, were 45 minutes from a Marina ,itself 45 minutes South of Playa del Carmen. They hang out between this area and Holbox. The guide takes you to where they happen to be that day. Not sure this answers your question.

Thanks ... I got that you took the ferry from Playa and then were met and driven to the marina and then were able to snorkel with them....still great though! WE have been diving with the Scuba Club for twenty years too. Thanks again! Aurora
