Comments Liquid Blue Divers is a good choice for the diver who prefers to avoid the cattle-boat approach. Small fast boats, experienced staff, Steel 120 and Steel 100 tanks, and a nice relaxed surface interval on a beach all add up to a wonderful experience. Dives are routinely over an hour long - determined primarily by experience of the group and air consumption. Choice of dive site is also primarily up to the group - taking into account weather and currents, naturally. Michaela runs a wonderful operation indeed.

The Cozumel of today is quite different from the Coz of years ago, when I started diving here. The hard coral in particular has been devastated, most replaced now by a ubiquitous covering of brownish-green leafy algae. As a result the entire food chain appears to be operating at a lower energy level than in the past. Little hard coral, far fewer planktonic species hovering over the coral, far fewer planktivores, thus far fewer small carnivores, and so on up the food chain.

Anyone who doubts the degradation of our environment, especially the oceans, has merely to dive anywhere in the Caribbean basin - the changes are alarming indeed!
