Comments Second trip to Cozumel in two months. Went solo and stayed at the Sunscape Sabor AL Resort south of town. Last time I stayed in town in an apartment and had to go out to eat or cook my own food--this time the Sabor was less expensive than the apartment and all food and drink was included. Nice room, good a/c, lots of hot water with excellent water pressure. I requested Diet Coke in my mini bar and they filled it with 10 sodas in just a few minutes after my arrival. Coffee maker in room with good coffee but strangely no coffee cups--went down to the lobby in the morning and they had a coffee machine set up and I grabbed several paper cups for the room. Decent food, plenty of options, nice pool and great beach with plenty of chairs and towels to use--not one person approached me about a time share! As I was there to dive I really didn't make much use of the resort except to eat and sleep. A little warning--lots of kids using the pool but never a bother to me--it is summer time--maybe less kids in the spring and fall, the Secrets Resort next door is adult only and about a third more expensive. Nice pier out front that any dive operator can pick you up from for no charge. From the airport to the hotel was 181 pesos per person in the van($8.50 US). If you had two or more people it would be cheaper to walk across the street from the airport to Diego's Taco stand have a few tacos and a beer and take a cab to the resort. 350 pesos to the hotel for up to 4 people. Weather for diving was great--83 degrees about everyday and sunny. We did have one thunderstorm blow us out of the water for our night dive--heavy rain and wind and thunder and lightening but by the next morning it was sunny and humid again. Dove for six straight days. Got my AOW cert while there from Dive with Cristina. Love diving with her and her crew and her big boat the Nena. Great full lunch between dives too. Dove Nitrox 36 everyday for $5 extra per fill--much cheaper than most other ops. Great mix of divers--students, newbies, snorkelers and experienced. All broken into groups of equal ability. Most we had in any group was five plus the dive master and sometimes two dive masters with us. Currents were all over the place, from nothing to ripping. Had two dives where you were literally flying past the reef. My favorite dives were Palancar Bricks and Columbia Deep--love swim thrus! Not a lot of critter life on those two reefs but fun dives. Cedral Wall was best dive for critters, two huge eels, sharks, rays and many turtles--moderate current so a good drift dive. All but one dive lasted 60 to 70 minutes---only one dive less at 58 minutes and we went a little deeper to 88 feet. Most relaxing and beautiful dive was Palancar Gardens--no current, beautiful corals and lots of small critters and turtles. Many thanks to Cristina, her brother Chito--we were dive buddies on every dive-- Javier the dive master, Fernando the deck hand, and Leno the captain who was ALWAYS right there waiting for us when we surfaced. Can't wait to return to dive with my friends again.
