Comments We have been going to Cozumel for over 30 years. On our first visit we were not yet scuba divers, but we were avid free divers. Since then we have been coming on and off including every year for the past eight years.

We travel with a regular group of 4 to 6 friends, ranging in age from 14 to 70. Our youngest member is a recent scuba convert and wonderful dive partner. Some arrive via Cancun, bus and ferry others fly via Houston or Charlotte and into Cozumel. Either way its a fairly quick and painless trip from the Bay Area.

We stayed at the Casa Mexicana, just down the street from the Vista del Mar our usual haunt. It's a bit fancier and has a great breakfast buffet. Good sized rooms and a refregerator ito keep your beer cold and at closs at hand.

The Aldora boats load at a pier that is a block or two away, an easy walk and you pass by Coffee Cozumel, the best coffee shop in town.

After the first dive we would have lunch on the beach, they even have a taco truck which was really very good. The breaks tend to be long, and I note that in previous reviews some have complained about the time spent on the beach, but our longest dive was 96 minutes, so a longer interval seemd to be a good idea.

Nitrox mixes are calibrated to your dives, 32% in the morning, 36% in the afternoon. They definitely cater to your dive profiles.

We did a lot of "muck diving" on this trip. If you like small critters, they are here you just need someone who can point them out to you. We had Leoung as our dive guide, she is great at critter spotting. She is also tremendous if you have a young person who would like to get certified.

We love Cozumel, great diving, friendly people and once you get away from the cruise ships, great food.

Closest Airport Cozumel Getting There SFO to Charlotte with a fairly long layover and then on to Cozumel. At least we didn't miss our connecting flight this time. The way the airlines measure ontime is when they pull out from the gate, the time spent on the runway waiting doesn't count ... go figure.
