Comments Flamingo Coast is Pacific side & appx. 2 hrs. from the airport in Liberia. Flamingo Beach Resort is very nice (better than my buddies & I are used to)w/ a large generator that kicks right in when the local power goes down, which is often. Turned out this is the only hotel in the area with own power source. The heat & humidity made this amenity worth whatever extra it cost us. Flamingo is a small area w/ numerous bars & restaurants within walking distance (lots of uphill / downhill). Very scenic / photogenic.
Aquacenter is not located at the hotel, but they picked us up each morning & took us back after diving - we were generally back to our hotel by noon. They have wash facilities / lockers for gear. Their boats are roomy & well-maintained. We had three divemasters (US / Britain / Italy), all attentive & knowledgable of area. The dive sites are all close - longest boat ride was probably 20 minutes. We came here for something different & weren't disappointed. The diving is not for everyone. Currents varied from light to strong on every dive, w/ varied (15 - 50 ft)visibility. Poor vis made closeup / macro photography important & made for some good, colorful photos. Lots of nudibranch & experienced divemasters to point them out. Our last day we got lucky at Catalina South & had best conditions of the trip w/ good vis, minimal current & numerous giant mantas, which made for good photo op. Topside between dives, we watched mantas breaching within 50' of the diveboat. Also saw numerous guitar sharks (new one on me)& lots of Pacific tropicals.
If you're a new diver, stick w/ the Carribean for awhile. But if you're ready for a new adventure, Flamingo Coast is worth a look.
