Comments The diving was very excellent. I went with the special rebreather expedition sponsored by Fathoms magazine and managed by Brett Gilliam. Very well set up and organized, the crossings to Cocos and Malpelo islands were very smooth and pleasant, though I've heard this is not always the case. Malpelo island is dramatic and visually stunning. Tons of moray eels at Malpelo. Cocos island surprised me because of how beautiful the island is topside. Under the water, what can be said that has not already been said. This place is a real treasure, with magnificent amounts of tropical fish, huge schools of jacks, hammerheads, and whitetips. The mobula rays are very interesting to observe. Favorite site, Dirty Rock with all it's variety, followed by bajo alcyone for it's tuna and hammerheads. It was great to snorkel with dolphins, snorkel with silky sharks, dive with hammerheads, galapagos sharks, blacktip sharks, whitetip sharks, all on the same day. One group (not mine) had a nice snorkeling whaleshark encounter on the last day of diving. Rebreathers made the diving alot more fun and enabled closer animal interactions, as well as extending the bottom times. Not a single rebreather malfunction for anyone on the entire trip, which speaks alot for the quality of the maintenance of this gear by the crew. We were all supplied with safety sausages, whistles, and homing beacons for safety. The cooks, divemasters, boatmen all were uniformly first class, and a dvd of the trip was made for us all which has been greatly enjoyed by my friends and family since returning home. If you are an experienced diver, you can't go to a better place or with better people.
