Comments While there is no coral to speak off (mainly volcanic rocks), there are loads of fish. While you are diving and it gets dark, you look up and see hundreds of razor surgeonfish, barberfish, and a few angelfish swim by. This happened on almost every dive. There were several eels, blennies and gobies hiding, and a few rays. Saw one good sized shark (5 ft) and 3 small turtles. The group I was with had beginner and advanced divers, and there was 1 guide per 4-5 people. Most groups kept the same guide for the week, but not mine. Most dives were 60 minutes, and there was water, oranges, watermelon and cookies for the break. We left at 8:30 and came back around 1:30 after 2 dives. Most sites were within 30 minutes, and there was a head on the boat.
My group of 4 had a different dives guide almost every day. One guide dove in with 1500 of air, and had to share air. Another guide lost a diver, and this same guide lost the group of 4 on the last dive (we joined another group). Everyone else seemed to like their guides.
The Hotel was careful about COVID. You could drink the water (a big plus!) The dining room and bar were open air, so you could wear your mask, or not. All the staff wore masks. The food was good and plentiful, but sometimes slow when a big group sat down at the same time. The rooms had AC, ceiling fans, a mini fridge and coffeemaker. The only downside- not enough hooks in the bathroom to hand your wet swimsuits and wetsuits. (They did not want them handing over the balcony). We did walk down the beach to 2 local restaurants: Pescado and La Casita del Marisco, and the food was very good.
