Comments Over two days, I went on two, two-tank dives. The dive boat is small (capacity ~8), but so are the groups. One day 1, we had 3 divers and 4 crew. One day two, 3 divers and 3 crew. Boarding involved a shallow wade in the surf to a tender boat, which took us to the dive boat moored offshore. The boat rides to the dive sites were 20-30 minutes each way. Our transits were not rough, but, hey, it's the Pacific Ocean so you never know.

The dive sites visited on day 1 (called Surprise and Argentina) were around small islands just outside the bay. Each dive maxed at 70-80 feet depth, with an hour long off-gassing in between. There was mild surge when entering and exiting. Lots of porcupine fish, grunts, snapper, king angelfish, and sergeant majors; a couple of white tip sharks resting on the bottom; a large turtle; and two spotted eagle rays.

On day 2, we visited Islas Catalinas, a little longer boat ride around a point outside the bay. The dive sites were El Punta and Tuberones, both about 80-90 feet of depth. Another long off-gassing, but the dive boat delivered us to an unoccupied beach the relieve ourselves, explore, and hang out (although both dive boats had marine toilets). We saw much of the same marine life, but at one point at least six white tips were congregated. Of note, we did spot a fleet of five mobius/manta rays. December is a little early in the season for whale sharks and more mantas.

The dive operation is very good, although not luxurious. The shop is I believe American-owned, but staffed by friendly and knowledgeable Ticos. I recommend them for intermediate and advanced divers. They can handle newbies, but the dive boat ingress/egress and some challenging dives may not appeal to some.

UW Photo Comments Nobody on our dives used cameras, but my observation is that Deep Blue doesn't strongly accommodate photographers. Only adequately.
