Comments I think most people have heard how spectacular Cocos Island diving is, so I won't belabor that point except to point out it is most definitely not a place for beginners. Or people who don't like sharks; I lost count of the number of sharks I saw on the first day.

I did want to give kudos to the crew of the Argo (part of the Undersea Hunter group, and their boats share crew members). They are the perfect blend of friendly, skilled, fun, and professional. The Argo itself is a very large boat with comfortable and very spacious quarters and common areas. It holds a max of about 16 divers who are then split into two groups for diving, each with its own divemaster and panga. The groups dive different locations so that it does not get crowded underwater.

Safety is a primary concern. All divers are given surface sausages and remote locator beacons to be used when necessary. Since most dives are deep (2-3 per day below 100 fsw), divers are encouraged to use Nitrox, and training is available on board during the 1.5 day trip to the islands for those who wish to get certified. The divemasters are there when you need help, but they do not "babysit" or get in the way of capable divers, so you never feel that they're always looking over your shoulder.

My next trip to Cocos will definitely be on an Undersea Hunter boat.
