Comments this trip was for Innerspace 2008,which is an all rebreather event held each year at divetech dive center at the cobalt coast resort. there were several industry reps there diving, teaching and promoting rb's. It was a unique chance to chat with and dive with many people at the forefront of rebreather diving and techonology. However the best diving and group experience comes for the trimix certified.

The resort has two boats and a concrete pier w/ladder for shore diving. the house reef was a five minute swim and most could dive it for a week and not see everything, i know i didnt. each day at 8am two boats leave, one for a deep trimix dive<300+> and one for a normoxic trimix dive<180-200>,then at one oclock a boat went out for a mod1 or air diluent dive<max 130>. Mod1 folks like me dove the house reef in the morning. or just chilled. I was trying to keep run times down on the boat dive so i usually did about 90 min total in the morning, then 140-160 min total on the boat, running multilevel profiles. The staff was very concerned that their guests not get into a situation where deco time owed exceeded the available bailout gas. The groups were all rebreather until the last two days where some of the oc wives/girlfriends came out to dive, the DM's then made two groups so you got your silent dive if that was your priority.

After the later boat dive you had to hustle to get fills if you want to nite dive, you can shore dive anytime, but not without gas.Scrubber material was right there all the time but for gas you had to get the fill station to do it, and they go home at 5pm. Other than that < and who came blame folks for wanting to go home when work is over> the staff was very attentive and friendly.

A normal day, up at 7am, breakfast buffet style, then prep the rb, beach dive from say 8 to 10 then lunch by the pool then 1 pm boat reef dive, you'd get back around five, clean up for buffet style dinner at 630 and then after dinner there were presentations on various rb topics, some very informative, some little more than sales pitches. luckily no one used the words 'timeshare' or' condo lifestyle opportunities"the whole week.

the food was good, basic buffet style fare, always a meat or a fish, and veggies and carbs ,and pie after dinner. the room was clean and the maids checked every day while you were diving, probably as good or better than a us chain hotel. the room was big, as a single i had to share but thats all part of the adventure right?we had a kitchenette and a living room. us tv stations and 110 power.

will i go back yeah sure but i want a trimix ccr cert first i think. The diving was awesome and the people worked hard to make a nice trip.
