Comments This was about the 8th-9th trip to Little Cayman Beach Resort with our dive shop, Wateree Dive Center in Columbia, SC, diving with Reef Divers. It can be a hassle in Grand Cayman connecting over to Little Cayman & Cayman Brac, but the diving was great. The resort, LCBR, is clean, up to date, with extremely nice rooms. The staff is top notch, with smiling happy faces than can turn you from grumpy to happy. The food is served buffet style & is delicious, plentiful, & varied. The staff in the dining room, particularly Claudia, is excellent.
The bar is fine with a fun atmosphere, nice staff, & attentive. The drinks are somewhat expensive, but you're on an isolated island & just expect it.
The dive operation is superb. Natalie & Lena were our dive masters for most of the week & were professional, but friendly & gave excellent dive briefings. The boats are nice, Newton 46's, with twin ladders leaving about 8:15 am, returning about 11:45 am then going back out for a 3rd dive at 1:45, returning about 4:00 or so. The dive sites are on the North side, generally about a 20 minute boat ride.
The diving was excellent with viz 100-125 feet on the walls & about 60-70 on the hard pan. The fish life was excellent with a lot of juveniles & only 2 lion fish seen all week. There were spotted eagle rays, turtles, etc., but very few sharks seem. The water temp was usually 86 degrees, quite warm. Grouper were seen every dive.
Getting back thru the Grand Cayman airport in Georgetown was a zoo. They are expanding, but cannot accommodate 5 jets & 2-3 prop planes at one time. I have heard many times that passengers did not hear their flight called & that is possible due to the bedlam in he departure lounge. Getting back to Atlanta & going thru security again is a pain in the butt, but if you want to travel to great dive sites like Little Cayman, etc., it is to be expected.
We will return again & it is tough to beat the diving, LCBR, or Reef Divers. All are superb & it was a wonderful week of diving.
