Comments Cayman Airways previous schedule of twice-weekly flights direct to Georgetown from O'Hare has been reduced to one flight per week(departs on Sunday, returns on Saturday), which we took to Little Cayman and the Little Cayman Beach Resort. The LCBR is small, all-inclusive, and entirely dive-oriented. Non-divers will not find much to do at the resort or on the island in general(resident iguanas and booby birds both outnumber humans). However, for the dedicated diver, I'm not sure a better resort and dive operation exists in the Caribbean region. Rooms are well-appointed, air-conditioned, and have views of either the pool or beach/ocean. What really sets this place apart, though, is the kitchen. Guests are served three all-you-can-eat meals of terrific food each day. Fresh produce, local seafood, home-baked goods, and wonderful daily ethnic offerings and island-fare provide a wealth of culinary options for even the most finicky eater. There was so much food that my wife and I could only bring ourselves to eat 2 of the 3 meals each day. The dive operation, like the rest of the resort, is top-notch. Reef Divers are very professional, highly experienced, and very knowledgeable about the local dive sites in Bloody Bay Wall Marine Park, which is as healthy an undersea environment as can be found in the Caribbean. Your dive package includes 2 morning dives plus a third after lunch. Night dives are scheduled once or twice per week as per demand. Shore diving is only available outside the resort as the shallow house lagoon is thick with turtle/eel grass. Three 40+' Newton diveboats comfortably support all dive guests, who remain on the same boat with the same 2 or 3-person crew each day during the week. Divemasters(esp. Nicky, Elisa and Christophe) are knowledgeable, extremely hard-working(this is total boutique diving--after you set up your scuba unit the first day, you never have to do so again during your entire stay), personable, and approachable. An open-air, roofed drying room is located next to the gear rinse tanks so that guests can hang and dry their wetsuits and other gear and not have it clutter up your room. Reef Divers staff will rinse, store, and set up your BC and reg each day. Nitrox and rental gear are available. Dive site briefings are detailed and supplemented with colored-marker sketches of the site. Depth limits are enforced at 100' for the first morning dive and computer divers are allowed to dive their own profiles and strike out on their own if they so choose. Bloody Bay Wall was lush and healthy, with teeming reef species, both fish and invertebrates. Out in the deep blue along the wall were pelagics like eagle rays, sharks, and turtles, and some or all could usually be spotted on at least one dive each day. Downtime is usually spent hanging out at the bar or lounging by the pool with a good book and trading "fish stories" with other guests. All in all, LCBR is as good as it gets for dedicated, land-based Caribbean diving and amenities.
