Comments This was our 11th trip to Little Cayman and Pirates Point and we have already signed up for next year. What started with a recommendation from Ben back in the early 90's that listed Pirates Point as one of his "Ten Classic Dive Destinations" has turned into an annual pilgrimage. My wife and I believe that Little Cayman is perhaps the best diving in the Caribbean and Pirates Point is perhaps the best dive resort. The number of repeat visitors is ample substantiation that others agree with us. For the 2 weeks we were there this year the majority of the people there were repeat customers, most of whom we already knew and had dived with in past years. Similarly, the staff turnover is small so you know the dive masters and they know you and your capabilities. For those that need attention they get it, for those who don't they are free to follow the group or go off on their own. Gladys Howard, the owner, does not advertise so if you do not subscribe to Undercurrent or hear about the resort from someone who has been there you would not know it exists.
The diving, while good every year, is never the same. The past couple of years caribbean reef sharks were seen frequently at the same depths as the divers. This year the reef sharks were generally seen below us on the wall, however there were nurse sharks in abundance at shallow depths. This year was also great for a host of macro critters. The dive masters found a baby bat fish that was about 0.25 inch long. I found a Blue Streak nudibanch that is shown in the Humann book, but has no scientific name. The dive masters are great at locating things for the guests to look at/photograph.
Gladys is also known for her food. Every meal is a culinary adventure. We often had visitors for dinner who were staying at other resorts on the island.
